Brussels to Amsterdam

Oh Kyle,

He certainly has a way with putting things nicely.

We got into Brussels last night after a short plain and train ride. The hotel, well we knew it was going to be bad because when we booked it, it only had one star. We figured for one night we could live with one star. The problem was not the one star, but trying to find the hotel. We followed the directions that was given to us from the website, but when the city enginers designed Brussels they must have just thrown dice. The streets wind their way around and the names of them change on a whim. We found ourselves lost for two hours with our heavy packs on. We found a map at the underground station that we were suppose to get off at. We looked up the name of the street and started walking in the direction that the map told us to. Still we were finding ourselves getting lost and passing the same park football (soccer) game about five times.
Let me say here that where we were walking was a sketchy part of town (the straight up ghetto).
We finally found the supposed street we were looking for, and came accross the address on the building. Thank God we were wrong, cause if that was our hotel I would have walked away and slept in the train station.
After coming accross the street with the same name as the one we were looking for, and it being wrong, I told Kyle that I wanted to see the directions. We went back to the underground map and looked up the other street name that we wanted and found the hotel two blocks from where we were.
This hotel was actually really really ghetto. To be short, I went to bet on top of the sheets and used my jacket as a pillow. Not to mension, we were in the muslim sector of town (the two white boys from SoCal).

We got to Amsterdam just fine. It is actually a very beautiful city, but it seems like anything goes. The stench of weed fills the air, and there is a sex store on just about every corner. Kyle and I found ourselves in the red light district tonight, along with about a thousand other people following their curriosity. Let's just say it is a very interesting and strange place. We will leave it at that. Tomorrow we will be going to the Heineken Brewery to take their tour and sample the beer. We will see what else Amsterdam has in store for us....

(sorry for not being able to post pictures. we are having trouble finding a usb port that our card fits in. as soon as we do, we will update for you all).
